Let's use what we already have in our closet to create a brand new wardrobe.
In this brand new sewing class, we're teaching what we're really passionate about right now!
The Mend, Alter & Upcycle Lab will teach you how to take the clothing you already own and don't wear into your favorite pieces. In this 4 week class you'll learn important sewing techniques to mend things that are ripped, torn or not fashion functional. You'll also learn creative ways to make the things you don't love into well fitting fashionable clothing that will become heavy in your clothing rotation. You'll also learn fun ways to take thrift store clothing and breathe new life into them, rescuing them from the landfill.
Skills you'll learn throughout the course of the 4 week class:
- Hemming, Blind hemming & jeans hemming
- Replacing Buttons & zippers
- Visible (Sashiko) Mending on Jeans
- Darning & repairing worn fabric
- Fixing Wear on the Crotch of Jeans
- Creative Patchwork to Fix Holes

- Shortening a skirt, dress or shirt
- Tapering a pair of jeans or pants into a slimmer fit
- Turning felted wool sweater into a hat, mittens, accessories, etc.

For ideas of what you can do in this class, check out Megan's Mend, Alter & Upcycle Pinterest Board.
This class is 8hours in total divided up between 4 weekly classes meeting for 2 Hours.
Check Megan's Blog Post about her current challenge of not buying any new clothes for 365 days.
Please note: The number of projects you alter, mend or upcycle in this class depends on a few things:
1.) If you come to class each week. this one is big! if you miss a class or classes, you probably will not finish all your projects.
2.) How much work you do at sew club and at home in between classes (if you miss class).
3.) Your experience coming into the class & the pace that you work.
Please bring all the clothing you'd like to alter to the first class so we can create a customized plan for what you'd like to work on through the course.
