“I wanted to thank you for the wonderful gift you gave both of this weekend!
¬†We are filled with a sense of accomplishment, even better because it was the result team work.¬†Gaby has brought the bag everywhere this weekend to show everyone and she is so proud of herself and her little pieces of fabric.¬†Me, I have it on my night stand and am so tickled pink that I actually made it.¬†Can’t wait to come back and do it again.¬†Thanks for your patience and wonderful teaching abilities.¬†Best,¬†Claire and Gaby”

“Date Night” Fashion Lab – Wednesdays 7-9pm in September

This Fashion Lab 4-week Sewing Series is based on sewing projects you could wear on your next “Date Night”.¬†In this weekly class, you’ll learn the basics of basics of clothing & accessory making while constructing all three of these simple projects.

This is a beginner level sewing class, but it helps if you have some prior knowledge of how to use the sewing machine as well as a project or two under your belt.

This is a great class if you have not yet taken any clothing project classes. The garments are easy enough to complete in the 4-week class, yet you’ll feel extremely accomplished when you are able to take home each of these very wearable projects. Or if you have some sewing experience, this is a great instant gratification sewing class.

Silkscreen Workshop

Introducing our step by step, silk screen printing class using water based/ non toxic ink.¬†In this¬†basics¬†class, we’ll be employing a 3 color process using 3 images or patterns.

The instructor will have 3 screens with images already on them, ready to print. She will demonstrate how to print by flooding the screen, then printing. She will show how you can use the same image on one screen to produce different outcomes using layering techniques.

Everyone will practice & get the feel for printing using scrap fabrics. Then everyone can have the chance to create a printed garment of their choice (fabric, scarf, t-shirt, onesie, etc). Bring one with you or purchase fabric at the studio.

Instructor Nicole Poko is owner and designer for Nightingale Projects in Newark, New Jersey. Nightingale Projects specializes in silk screen printed goods focusing on using drawings and designs both nostalgic and contemporary. The company began in 2005 exclusively creating wedding stationary, in May 2011 Nightingale Projects launched a home and gift-ware line. Nicole received a BFA in silk screen printing and drawing from Montclair State University. Nicole also works as a visual merchandiser in luxury retail which has given her the experience to trend forecast and persistently aims for high quality results.

"The instructor was very informative and she made us individually feel special."

Jacqueline M.

"It was perfect for me as a someone who never used a sewing machine!"

Dorit C.

"Great instructor! She was very knowledgeable and helpful! I like how the class was small, less than 10 people so she was able to help us one-on-one. Definitely recommend taking this class if you want to learn to sew!"

Cristin B.

"Great class!!!  I am sooo happy to have started my journey through sewing with M Avery Designs Sewing Studio. Megan was an excellent instructor. I definitely recommend."

Marilyn B.

"Megan is a super friendly instructor who explains things very clearly and in detail. She is extremely personably and welcoming. The class was informative and covered everything oh need to know about the basics of a sewing machine. We even made our own little pin cushion in the first day. It was a nice intimate group of 6 which ensured all our needs were met and questions answered. Awesome!!!"

Dani C.

"It was a surprisingly enjoyable experience. My daughter and I went on a Monday and learn a lot in a short period of time. Made some cute pin cushions in the end."

Felice A.

"I didn’t expect to learn so much in one sewing class. The instructor was wonderful. She was very thorough and patient with everyone’s questions. I look forward to taking more sewing classes."

Crochet Lab

4-Week Learn to Crochet Workshop for Adults.
Crochet for Beginners is here!

Learn crochet terminology, stitch execution and how to follow a pattern while creating beginner level projects including:
Spiral Scarf, Water Bottle Caddy with flower/leaf detail, Drawstring Granny Square Tote, amigirumi octopi, headbands (or bracelets), butterfly, (and possible other projects if time permits).

¬†Each class will build upon the last, adding new stitches and techniques.¬† Rather than¬†rushed “make and take” lessons¬†that result¬†in disjointed information and poorly executed (if finished) projects,¬†this series provides a complete foundation of knowledge, skills and appropriate projects that enable everyone to continue crocheting independently.

The first class is 3 hours long (learning intensive) and the remaining three classes will be 2 hours long.  Students will leave each class with finished projects.

Yarn can be purchased at class for $10 additional (highly suggested).   If you bring your own yarn it must be  worsted weight.  Hooks MUST be purchased on your own, size H (aluminum, Boye, Bates or Wright brand is suggested) and often stores like ACMoore, Joanns and Michaels offer a coupon discount weekly towards one item (which could be used to purchase your hook).  Hooks are sold individually and in multipaks.  If you purchase a multipak, be sure it includes size H.

Next Class:
4 Sessions
Sunday September 9th 1-4pm РThe first class is longer because it  is learning intensive (stitches/techniques, practice/execution, getting comfortable crocheting) and will include a quick project
Sunday September 16th 1-3pm
Sunday September 23rd 1-3pm
Sunday September 30th 1-3pm (2012) | Sign up

$159 + Yarn

$139 Early Bird Pricing – Valid only if you sign up 1 Month before the class starts.

Click here to Register Online or call studio 201.876.1198

Crochet outside of class will be encouraged. The instructor aims to go further than make/take crochet classes that provide “just enough” disjointed information to create rushed, possibly poorly executed (if finished) projects. It is her desire when classes end that everyone will continue crocheting independently.

There are 8 spots per session.

Students should purchase their yarn before the class or fabrics can be purchased at the M Avery Designs Studio.
